Priyadarshan Breaks Silence On ‘Poor Education’ Comment About Rajpal Yadav Amid Actor’s Reaction
Filmmaker Priyadarshan has finally addressed the controversy surrounding his “poor education” remark about actor Rajpal Yadav, clarifying that his statement was misunderstood and was never meant to insult the actor. The issue surfaced after Rajpal strongly reacted to the filmmaker’s earlier comment linking his legal troubles to “poor education.”
The controversy began when Priyadarshan spoke about Rajpal while discussing the actor’s financial and legal struggles. In an earlier interview, the filmmaker said, “I have known Rajpal for over 20 years. I saw him for the first time in Jungle and was surprised by his performance. My first film with him was Malamaal Weekly, and after that, he has starred in most of my films.”
He further revealed that he had tried to support the actor during difficult times. “I told the producers (Jubilee Films) of my next to pay Rajpal more than what he charges because of his situation. We want to save him. The producers have agreed. Rajpal plays the villain in my movie.”
Priyadarshan also said he was aware of Rajpal’s challenges and had continued casting him in his projects. “I knew about his problem. That’s why I kept signing Rajpal for every film. I pushed him in ad films too.”
However, the comment that triggered the controversy was when the director added, “The poor guy made a blunder because of his poor education. Rajpal is a good soul.”
Reacting strongly to the remark, Rajpal dismissed the claim and defended himself publicly. Speaking in an interview, the actor said, “This is completely wrong. Priyanji doesn’t know me. I am well educated guy, I have been working since the age of 11 to 55.”
He further emphasised that facing difficulties has nothing to do with someone’s education. “Even the biggest stalwarts land in trouble at some point, but that has nothing to do with their education. Had I been poorly educated, I wouldn’t have survived here for 25–30 years.”
Despite the disagreement, Rajpal also maintained that he still respects the filmmaker and other directors he has worked with. “I respect three directors a lot — Mr Ram Gopal Verma, David Dhawan, and Priyadarshan. I look up to them. I have done more than 50 films with just the three of them.”
He added, “Poor education doesn’t apply here because there is another intention. I am like Priyanji’s son. Whenever he asks, I am ready to prove myself as an actor for a lifetime. But Priyanji or anyone from Bollywood doesn’t know the whole story, so any judgments from them don’t hold value.”
